Weather in Croatia in Summer

Croatia in summer is renowned for its typical Adriatic weather, hot and dry during the Summer. But how hot is Croatia in Summer?

What to wear in Croatia in Summer (June, July and August)

The temperatures in Croatia are pleasant and warm. Out of all the summer months July is the hottest month to visit with average highs and lows of 31°C / 87.8F and 23°C/73.4F.

August has similar temperatures to July while June is marginally cooler but still pleasant for sightseeing.

For this reason we recommend having lots of light layers in natural fabrics such as cottons and linens to help reduce sweating especially for days when you are spending lots of time outside such as at Krka National Park, Plitviče Lakes National Park and other outdoor attractions.

How rainy is Croatia in Summer?

As well as being the hottest month in Croatia, July is also the driest with only 5 mm of rainfall across the whole month.

And while August and June are marginally wetter waterproof wear is not a concern for your packing list.

Note: we always recommend checking the forecast at your destination(s) 7 days out from travel to make sure there are no expected weather fronts i.e. heatwaves or cold snaps.

Pants / Shorts

When looking at the best pants for Croatia in Summer we recommend steering clear of jeans. They are uncomfortable in the rain and too hot for most weather.

Instead we recommend linen pants for smarter restaurants. However we also recommend packing shorts for days when you are visitig some of Croatia’s stunning beaches and national parks.

Skirts and Dresses

On top of trousers I will usually add a couple of dresses or skirts to the packing list

Personally I prefer to wear skirts and dresses in a maxi or midi length dresses and skirts but Croatia doesn’t have many dress codes where shorter length dresses are deemed inappropriate,

T Shirts

T Shirts are a great base for Croatia whatever Summer month you are visiting. At this time of year I recommend packing short sleeve tees in natural fabrics and plain colors to make them work in a capsule wardrobe more easily.

Best Shoes for Croatia in Summer

Waterproof Shoes

For Croatia in Summer my number one shoe is a sneaker as it can deal with cobble stones streets and even walking the city walls in Dubrovnik.

I personally like a white sneaker for summer as they are most versatile for a capsule wardrobe.

Sandals

As the temperatures soar you will want a pair of breathable shoes. We recommend sandals. As there is a lot of walking over uneven surfaces in the historic centers of Dubrovnik and Split and at national parks. For this reason we recommend something like a Teva which is great for walking in.
