But before we get into the specifics of what to wear in Bermuda with some outfit inspiration we thought it would be worthwhile to talk about exactly what and where Bermuda is, some of the attractions and activities you need to dress for and of course how the seasons will affect your Bermuda Packing List.
Note: if you are visiting as part of a Bermuda Cruise check out the dedicated packing list. Although what to wear in port will be the same a cruise, dependent on line will require adjustments to the packing list. This is why we recommend checking out our specific cruise packing list.
Where is Bermuda?
Many people mistakenly believe that Bermuda is part of the Caribbean however it is not! In fact Bermuda is 900 miles North of the Caribbean.
Being further North, Bermuda gets four seasons. Therefore this packing list will be affected by the month of travel more than in the Caribbean.
Bermuda Dress Code
One of the things I found when I was visiting Bermuda is that there are very few places that actually have a dress code. Even in Bermuda at night you will find that there are very few restaurants that have a strict dress code.
It is also worth noting that Bermuda is a tourist destination which does have a peak and off-peak season. As such peak season will run from April to November, which is when all of the cruise ships visit and if you visit Bermuda in Winter you will find there to be far fewer tourists.
What to Wear in Bermuda in Summer (June, July and August)
Summer in Bermuda is categorised as June, July and August. However the peak summer season in Bermuda extends from May to October. During this period the weather tends to be pretty consistent with temperatures starting at 76.7°F (25°C) rising further to 85°F (29°C) in July and August.
For these temperatures you are going to want to lots of natural fabrics on your packing list.
Also the sea temperature at this time of year is perfect for swimming so you will want to be packing at least two swimsuits with you for a one week Bermuda vacation. One for wearing and one for drying.
Overall for Bermuda in summer we recommend packing:
Maxi Dresses
One of our favorite things to wear in Bermuda in Summer are Maxi Dresses. Loose and flowing clothes are better fin Summer as they will keep you cooler. They are also great for wearing down to the beach and out for dinner.
Maxi Skirts
Maxi Skirts are also great for pairing with T shirts, blouses and Tank tops in Bermuda.
Tank Tops and T Shirts
These are perfect for going out exploring Bermuda and can be paired with skirts or shorts.
Shorts
Shorts are perfect for exploring both the towns and beaches of Bermuda. We recommend bringing at least one pair of quick dry shorts as these are more practical for beaches in Bermuda.
Pashmina
I never travel anywhere without a pashmina.
Swimwear
Most of the things you will be doing in Bermuda will involve watersports and beaches for instance seeing the beautiful pink sand beaches at Horseshoe Bay. As you will be spending so much time in the water you will need at least two pieces of swimwear with you.
Sun Hats
Sun hats are a staple on any Bermuda packing list. Be sure to pick a wide brimmed straw hat instead of a baseball cap to for more in with the locals.
Underwear
Goes without saying
PJs
We recommend packing lightweight PJs as it can be warm even at night in Bermuda.
Note: If you want to know what to wear in Bermuda for men I recommend packing a mixture of chinos and linen trousers and some smarter and some casual shorts alongside plain t shirts and polos and short sleeve shirts for summer.
What to Wear in Bermuda in Winter (December, January and February)
Winter is definitely not peak season in Bermuda. That is because the temperatures are quite cool and can even be cold.
The temperatures in Bermuda in Winter ranger from 22°C/72°F to / 15°C/59°F depending on the month of travel.
But the biggest thing to know about the weather in Bermuda in Winter is that it can be rainy. On average you can get 12 days of rain in Winter so it is worth having some shoes that can cope with rainy weather.
So knowing that what should you put on your Bermuda Winter Packing List? Well we recommend packing:
Jacket, waterproof
You will definitely want a warm waterproof jacket for Bermuda in Winter. It can feel cool in Bermuda in Winter especially in the rain. Therefore we recommend packing a lightweight waterproof jacket.
Cardigans, Sweaters and Top Layers
We recommend packing a few different types of top layers with you for instance a combination of cardigans, sweaters and hoodies of different weights so you have enough variety for all types of weather.
Long Sleeve Tops
It is unlikely you will be wearing only short sleeve t shirts in Bermuda in Winter. Therefore we recommend packing a mix of long and short sleeve tees with you, in whatever style you feel comfortable in.
Jeans
Although shorts and light weight trousers such as linen trousers are perfect for Bermuda in Summer and the shoulder seasons, they are simply too lightweight for Winter. We therefore recommend having at least one pair of jeans with you in Winter.
Underwear
Goes without saying
Pjs
A slightly heavier weight pair are better in Winter.
What to Wear to Bermuda in Spring (March, April, May)
Depending on what time you are visiting Bermuda in Spring will depend on the range of temperatures you will experience. March is still pretty Wintery and the tourist season has yet to kick off.
However April is the start of tourist season and you will find both the crowds and temperatures start to climb. In fact in April you can expect the average temperatures across the month to be around 22°C/71.6F.
Also any month in Bermuda can be pretty rainy so a lightweight packaway rain jacket is always a good idea.
Overall for March I recommend sticking with your Winter packing list while for April and May I recommend transitioning into your summer capsule wardrobe but keeping a couple of layers handy in case of a cold snap.
What to Wear in Bermuda in Fall (September, October and November)
September is still peak season in Bermuda, and has very Summery conditions. Therefore you can still stick with your summer capsule wardrobe. In fact Ocotber and November as a whole will still be counted as peak season with Bermuda cruises still running.
However for November you will want to start adding more layers to your packing list as the temperatures start to drop. But even in November the sea will still be warm enough to swim in for most people so be sure you pack your swimwear still.

Flip Flops
Flip flops are not good for walking however I always take them for a Bermuda cruise. They take up very little space in your case so don’t really cause overpacking. And they are great on beaches and for using on the pool deck.

Sneakers are great for walking around historical sites such as the royal naval dockyard where there are uneven surfaces as well as for hikes.
Just be sure to pick a lightweight breathable pair.

Water shoes are optional depending on where you are going on your Bermuda cruise and the excursions you plan on doing. If you plan on going snorkelling we recommend packing a water shoe.
