Snow is not commonly seen in Greece at any time of year. However in February you may get some snow on the higher ground where the ski resorts are.

However for most visitors in Greece this should not be a concern.

Note: we always recommend checking the forecast at your destination(s) 7 days out from travel to make sure there are no expected weather fronts i.e. heatwaves or cold snaps.

But if you do plan on going skiing check out our ski capsule wardrobe.

However before we get into the details of what to pack for Greece in February we want to stress the importance of packing a capsule wardrobe.

Capsule wardrobes are a great way of preventing overpacking and this is especially important for Greece. Traveling around Greece and island hopping, even in Winter is a great way to explore the country, but is difficult to do with lots of luggage whcih is why a capsule wardrobe is important.

Overall the items we recommend including in your Greece Capsule wardrobe include:

Jacket / Coat

In Winter you will definitely need a coat / jacket. I like to have something like a puffer jacket. Though obviously if you are going into the mountains to higher ground a thicker coat will be required.

Wool Hat or Beanie, scarves and glove

It really depends on the part of Greece you are traveling to as to whether you need winter accessories like a hat scarf and gloves. For instance in the North and in the mountains, you will absolutely need these Winter accesories.

However further south it will depend on your tolerance for cold as to weather they will be needed.

Jeans

For me jeans are perfect pants for Greece in February no matter where you are traveling to. Also you will see all types of jeans in Greece so you don’t need to worry about the type of jeans you pack. Just be comfortable.

For the North however and in the mountains fleece lined jeans may be a good idea.

HoweverI would suggest that jeans are not the only type of trouser you should take for this time of year. We also recommend packing some smarter trousers like chinos, cords or wool trousers. We love a black pant for anywhere in Greece in Winter (we love the Athleta Brooklyn ankle pant for travel).

Layers

Layers are absolutely essential for February in Greece. Light layers are better than chunky knits and sweaters as they are easier to layer.

Merino wool is one of my favorite fabrics as this is a relatively thin material to pack, however is insulating and repels smell packing it perfect for capsule wardrobes.

T Shirts

T shirts are a great base layer for Greece in Winter. We recommend packing more long than short sleeve tees though especially in the North.

Blouses

Blouses are a great pick for Greece in February especially for dinners when paired with cardigans or sweaters.

Winter Dress or Skirt

Short skirts and dresses are not appropriate in churches in Greece and not really in keeping with local style. But dresses are still good for Greece in Winter especially at night. Given the temperatures we recommend wearing sweater dresses which can be paired with thick tights and boots.

Pashmina

It doesn’t matter where I am traveling in Europe, a pashmina is always on my packing list. A pashmina can be used as a scarf or lovely accessory to transition an outfit from day to night and is also useful for churches in Greece.

PJs

I would pack thicker weight flannel PJs for January.

Underwear and Socks

Goes without saying. I like to pack merino wool socks for Winter travel. They are thinner than hiking socks but are insulating so are good for cold weather.

Coat and Winter Accessories

A coat is an essential for Greece in February. For the North you will need a thicker coat and winter accesories, while in the South you may just need a coat.

Layers

If you are spending a week in Greece in Winter I would recommend packing 3 types of layers as well as a coat as per our sudoku packing method.

We recommend packing a hoodie for daytimes exploring archaeological sites like the Acropolis and for museums, a sweater for evenings and a fleece or cardigan too.

Underwear

PJs

Best Shoes for Greece in February

There are two types of shoes that we recommend packing for February and they are:

Sneakers

Sneakers are great for touring archaeological sites in Greece even in Winter. They have a good sole to provide grip on slippery surfaces and provide good arch and ankle support for uneven surfaces.

My favorite brand of sneakers for walking are are Hoka and  AllBirds as these are great for walking in.

However you also can’t go wrong with a plain white sneaker as they go with everything fashion wise. One of my favorite pairs of white sneakers is the Adidas Cloud Foam shoes.

Ankle Boots

As well as sneakers, boots are an essential for Greece at this time of year. WE recommend picking something that has a low or no heel and a good sole for walking in all conditions and over over all surfaces.

They are also better for smarter restaurants than sneakers.

We tend to pick ankle boots not knee high boots, not for a fashion reason but just because they are easier to pack than longer length boots.
