Note: This Rome in November packing list covers the city of Rome generally. However if you would like site specific dress code guidance check out the below posts:

Best Shoes for Rome in November

No matter the time of year you are traveling, it is really important that you have comfortable shoes for Rome.

Rome is a city best seen on foot but offers some challenging terrain in the form of cobblestone streets, stairs and generally uneven surfaces. Therefore the top shoe for Rome in out opinion is

Sneakers

Whenever I go to Rome whatever time of year my number one go to shoe is a sneaker as they cope well with the terrain.

As November is quite rainy by Rome standards, it is also worth considering packing a pair of sneakers with some waterproofing or water-resistance.

On top of sneakers we also always pack

Ankle Boots

for Rome in Winter. I find a smarter shoe such as an ankle boot more appropriate for dinners in Rome than a sneaker.

I like an ankle boot that is water proof and also has a thick heel and good sole that will work on Rome’s uneven streets.

Winter Coat

Although it is unlikely that you will in my opinion you won’t need thick thermal coats in Rome in November however a warm winter coat is a definite must.

And no matter the month of travel you will find Italians are a stylish bunch so you will see locals wearing smarter Winter coats as opposed to walking jackets.

oolen Hat or Beanie, scarves and gloves

Winter accessories are a must for Italy in November.

Trousers

Trousers are my go to bottom layer for Italy in November even over skirts and dresses as they cope with Rome’s changeable weather best.

I tend to pack:

  • jeans
  • cords or
  • wool trousers

for Rome in Winter. And I like to include darker colors in my Rome winter capsule wardrobe as this fits in with local styles.

Blouse

A blouse works for the cooler days and nights. Italian style tends to err on the more smart casual side so a nice blouse is the perfect Italian Fall Packing List addition.

T Shirt

T shirts are a great base layer for Rome in November. For this time of year I would pack a mix of both long and short sleeve t shirts, however you will need more longer sleeve tops generally at this time of year.

And regarding the style of t shirt, black is always in fashion in Rome, and you will also a lot of neutral colors in many Italian capsule wardrobes at this time of year. If you want to look like a local I would steer away from neon colors and anything with large graphics.

Pashmina

It doesn’t matter where I am traveling, a pashmina is always on my packing list and Rome is no different. A pashmina for Rome can act as a scarf or double up as an added extra layer in Late November.

PJs

Personally I always pack heavier weight pjs and loungewear for Rome in November.

Underwear

Goes without saying.

Chinos/Jeans

For men visiting Rome in November I recommend having a couple of Pairs of smarter jeans and chinos with you. If you have a smarter tailored pair of jeans or chinos this will be the perfect day to night transition item.

But if you are traveling towards the end of November then you may also want a heavier weight trouser such as a corduroy or wool.

Shirts

During the day t-shirts are fine but I recommend having at least one button down shirt with you for Rome in November at night.

The Rome dress code at night tends to be more smart casual than casual so you will feel more comfortable when out in a shirt over a tshirt.

Polo

However if shirts aren’t your thing then be sure to pack a smart polo on top.

T Shirts

T Shirts are fine for sightseeing in Rome during the day and work as a base layer in your Italian capsule wardrobe. However I recommend making them the plain type instead of highly graphic or slogan t shirts.

For this time of year, be sure to have some long sleeve tees with you.

Blazer

A blazer is perfect if you are going to a high end restaurant in Rome and will double up as a jacket as an extra layer if you are visiting towards the end of November.

Coat

A coat is a good idea for Rome in November as a top layer as the weather turns chillier.

Underwear

Goes without saying.
