Weather in Italy in June

As with any Italian weather guide it is important to point out that the North of Italy will generally be cooler than the South and the islands such as Sicily and Sardinia.
In June you can expect the average temperatures in the North to be between 55-80°F/13-27°C but jumps to 70-85°F/21-30°C in the South.
If I were to generalise the weather in Italy in June I would say that you can expect warm weather that requires light base layers with a couple of add on layers for cooler evenings.

What to Wear to Italy in June for Women

As summer has set in in Italy in June you want to make sure you have lots of lightweight natural fabrics in your capsule wardrobe for Italy.
Maxi Skirt / Maxi Dresses
These are my normal go tos in Italy in Summer. The temperatures have shot up and Maxi skirts and dresses are loose and flowy which will help keep you cool especially if you pick ones made of natural fabrics.
Also being maxi length means that they meet Italian church dress codes in places such as the Pantheon and Vatican City providing there is no high slit that reveals the knee.
Note: if you are heading into the mountains or doing any hiking etc pack for cooler temperatures and for the proposed activity you will be doing.
Trousers
I would also add to your packing list a pair of smart casual trousers such as Chinos or linen trousers for the evenings. These are good for going out for dinner in Italy where you may be dining alfresco.
Blouse
Blouses are perfect in Italy in summer especially if you select a natural fabric one with a looser fit. This will help prevent sweating and also still meet the dress code for churches.
It is also a great day to night transition piece.
T Shirt
T Shirts are a great base for Italy in June. I tend to stick with plan dark t shirts that can have a cardigan or pashmina added to dress them up in the evening.
Remember graphic or text t shirts are often on the what not to wear in Italy list as they make you look like a tourist.
Cardigan
Although the weather in Italy in June is warm and pleasant, I would still pack one cardigan with you for cooler days or evenings. Or alternatively you could add a smart blazer to your packing list or denim jacket to fulfil the same function.
Pashmina
It doesn’t matter where I am traveling, a pashmina is always on my packing list especially for Italy. A pashmina can be used as a scarf or lovely accessory but can double up as an added extra layer or help provide some added modesty for churches in required.
PJs
A lightweight pair is all that is needed especially if your hotel doesn’t have air conditioning.
Underwear and Socks
Goes without saying
Sunglasses
Italy in summer is hot and bright so sunglasses are definitely an essential.
Sunhat
The sun in Italy is strong so be sure to pack a stylish sunhat with you for added sun protection.
Swimwear (Optional)
If you are going to the coastal region of Italy such as Puglia, an island such as Sicily, the lakes or your city hotel has a pool then do pack a swimsuit. However if your hotel in a city doesn’t have a pool oyu can leave the swimwear at home.
What to Wear in Italy in June for Men
For men visiting Italy in June, I actually recommend actually keeping things similar to the ladies packing list. But for me any Italian Summer Packing list for guys should include
Chinos
Having a couple of Pairs of smarter chinos or lightweight linen trousers to be are an Italian summer essential for men.
These are perfect for day to night transition and are great for churches you want to visit.
T Shirts and Shirts
During the day t shirts are great. For men short sleeve tees are probably going to be the most useful for you.
Again I would recommend avoiding anything with a graphic or slogan or in overly loud colors if you want to fit in with the locals.
You should also pack at least one button down shirt with you for Italy in June for going out to dinner however short sleeve shirts are perfectly acceptable.
However if shirts aren’t your thing then be sure to pack a smart polo on top of the above.
Linen Jacket
My husband always like to travel with a jacket when in Italy for going out for dinner. Blazers are too heavy however so in June he opts for a lightweight linen jacket.
Best Shoes for Italy in June
Sneakers
Italy in June is hot but sneakers are still a great shoe choice for Italy.
They can cope with the warmer weather while also being good for your feet on cobbled and uneven streets.
I know that many people worry about wearing sneakers in Italy but they are actually fine to wear. I would personally pick more of a fashion pair as opposed to sports ones to fit in more with the locals but any pair is better than no pair.
Just remember to wear your sneakers in BEFORE your trip if you decide to buy new ones.
Sandals
As I may have mentioned June in Italy is hot. Therefore a pair of sandals is an essential. However due to the terrains you encounter in Rome I would pick a pair with arch support and without a heel.
And I would definitely leave the flip flops at home unless you head to one of the many beautiful Italian islands or beaches.
What Else to Pack for Italy in June

- Sunscreen
- Aloe Vera
- Crossbody bag – unfortunately any tourist site attracts pickpockets and Italy is no different. Protect your belongings by having a crossbody bag with lots of zips.
- Travel Adaptor
- Power Pack / Battery recharger
