Best Shoes for Rome in June
Sandals
As the temperatures have begun to heat up in June you will want to have more breathable shoes with you. I would make sure you have 1-2 pairs of sandals with you for a week in Rome. Just be sure you don’t select sandals with a heel which wouldn’t be comfortable for the walking you would be doing.
We try and select sandals that have good arch support which would be better for your feet especially when walking over the cobbles.
Sneakers
Although sandals are great for warmer days I would recommend also having a pair of sneakers as these are best for long days of walking – which trust me you will be doing in Rome.
We often get questions about whether or not locals wear sneakers in Rome and I am pleased to report they do. Sneakers will not be the thing that point you out as a tourist in Rome.
I would personally pick more of a fashion pair as opposed to sports ones to fit in more with the locals but any pair is better than no pair.
Sneakers are great as they will be safer on the cobbled and uneven streets and be comfortable on your feet for all the walking you are bound to be doing.
- Tennis-inspired sneakers from adidas
- Soft leather upper with lace-up closure
- Cushioned Cloudfoam sockliner and rubber outsole
- Subtle shimmering detail on heel tab
- Made with recycled Primegreen materials
My go to sneaker brands for travel are:
- Hoka ,
- Sketchers Go Walks or
- All Birds
But go with whatever you feel most comfortable in just remember to wear your sneakers in BEFORE your trip if you decide to buy new ones.
What to wear in Rome in May for Women
Cotton trousers and Capri Pants
June isn’t officially summer in Rome but the temperatures have definitely started to heat up.
Cotton trousers are probably better during the day than jeans which might make you a bit too hot.
And as the weather heats up you may want to consider some trousers of a slightly shorter length such as Capri pants as you won’t feel as hot.
Linen is another great fabric choice for June too especially if you are traveling towards the end of the month.
Longer length skirts and dresses
As it is getting hotter in the city loose and Flowy dresses and skirts are perfect for the city. But be sure you make your selection carefully. Short skirts and dresses are top of my thewhat not to wear in Rome list as these are not appropriate for wearing inside Rome attractions such as churches.
Therefore I recommend packing items that are midi or maxi in length. Just be sure that there is no slit that reveals your knee because when visiting Italian churches and the Vatican you need to be modest in your dress which includes having knees covered up.
Again, as with trousers we recommend picking fabrics that are natural and breathable as you don’t want to be in sweaty manmade fabrics in the heat.
Blouse
A loose blouse works perfectly for Rome in June. Again the key to picking the perfect blouse for Rome in June is selecting one made from natural breathable fabrics.
T Shirt
T shirts are perfect for Rome but it is important to select the right type. These should be dark in color and fitted as opposed to graphic, bold or oversized t shirts as these are not commonly worn by Italians.
In June you shouldn’t really need any long sleeve t shirts and I would stick to packing just short sleeve t shirts.
Cardigan
Although June is not cold, the nights can get a bit chilly. A cardigan is perfect for wearing in cooler weather and for when eating dinner in Italy al fresco.
Jacket
You do not need a thick top layer in June however I recommend picking a lightweight jacket especially for use in the evenings. I usually opt for a smart blazer in a dark color.
Pashmina
A pashmina should be on your Rome packing list whatever the season. It is great as a coverup when dining al fresco but also to make an outfit more modest for visiting churches and catacombs in Italy.
PJs or Nightie
Lightweight pyjamas and nighties are perfect especially towards the end of the month.
Sunglasses
The sun is very bright in Rome, to be eye healthy you should always travel with sunglasses in Rome.
Sunhat
Sunhat are ideal for Rome in June. The sun is getting stronger and some of the buildings are dazzling. A sunhat can make it easier for sightseeing around the city.
Underwear and Socks
Goes without saying

Short sleeve T shirts are a must for this time of year. We recommend that you pack t shirts that are dark in color to look more like a local.
Also as Romans are a stylish bunch especially when dining out we recommend putting some button down shirts on your list. Both short sleeve and long sleeve shirts are acceptable at this time of year.

A fashion sneaker is perfect for men sightseeing in Rome.
Smarter Shoes
A pair of smart shoes for the evening will help you look less like a tourist and more like a local in Rome.
My husband usually also packs a pair of Sanuks for this time of year as they are cooler than sneakers but work in both restaurants and for walking.
