Orlando Weather in October

The Orlando weather in October in my opinion is pretty perfect, especially by comparison to summer. The temperatures lessen as does the rain as you move from early to late October but generally speaking you get quite good weather in October in Orlando.

In fact some locals would go as far as to say the weather in October in Orlando makes it one of the best times to visit.

What is the temperature in Orlando in October?

The temperature in Orlando in October can usually range from high 70s to high 60s but can get up to 85 degrees Fahrenheit and as low as Mid 60s  to mid 50s in the evening.

When we were visiting Orlando last October we experienced this complete range during a one week period. So it is a good idea to pack for the whole range of temperatures.

Is it warm enough to swim in Orlando in October?

Are you considering whether to pack swimwear for Orlando in October and wondering if it is warm enough to swim in Orlando in October? Well no matter whether you are thinking about swimming in the sea or a pool I think it is worth bringing swimwear.

That is because in my opinion it is warm enough to swim in Orlando in October. Many of the hotels in Orlando have heated pools and the on property resorts at Disney World all have heated pools.

Also many of the private pools in Orlando will come with a heating option for an added extra cost. Therefore if you have access to a pool you are probably going to want to use it in Orlando in October.

Also if you want to visit one of the many beautiful beaches you may want to take a dip in the sea to combat the humidity.

What to Wear in Orlando in October

In this section of our guide what to wear in Orlando in October for men, women and children whether you are hanging out at the beach or pool, hitting the theme parks or visiting some of the other Orlando attractions like Kennedy Space Center

What to wear in Orlando

T Shirts

T shirts are likely to be your best friend when you are visiting Orlando in October for men, women or children.

They are great because they can be dressed up or down depending on where you are going and can be easily found in cottons and other breathable fabrics which is an essential for clothes for Orlando at October.

If you are going to the theme parks in October then we recommend taking some themed ones with you either just regular Disney or Universal character ones.

However our favorites, given the amount of amazing Halloween events are at the theme parks we love ones that have a Halloween theme.

Click here for Halloween Theme Park t shirts.

Also it is worth noting that you will see theme park related attire in most of the shops and restaurants in Orlando (particularly in the more casual eateries on International Drive for example). Therefore don’t feel like you have to only wear theme park attire only in the theme parks.

Shorts

When I think of Orlando I think of theme parks and beaches. Both of these locations of course have the potential for you to get very wet.

As Orlando in October is definitely short weather we recommend bringing a pair of Quick Dry shorts with you just in case you get wet at one of these locations

Light Sweater / Jacket

Although October is warm it can cool down in the evenings. We therefore recommend wherever you are going that you have a light sweater or jacket with you.

This is especially important if you plan to eat out in Orlando as many of the restaurants will have very fierce air conditioning.

Also if you plan to rope drop the parks or stay in them late in the evenings for the fireworks I recommend having top layers such as hoodies with you.

Best Shoes for Orlando in October

When visiting Orlando you will definitely need a couple of pairs of shoes with you due to the different types of locations you will be visiting. However the most important thing is that you have a comfortable pair of walking shoes with you.

Whenever we visit the theme parks in Orlando we always do at least 25K steps a day, so having a good pair of walking shoes in an absolute essential for Orlando.

We recommend taking the following shoes with you on any visit to Orlando:

Sneakers

Whether you are visiting the beaches, malls or theme parks in Orlando you will be needing a good pair of sneakers with you.

Most places you will visit in Orlando will require a lot of walking especially at places like Walt Disney World. Therefore we recommend packing your most comfortable pair of sneakers.

It doesn’t matter what they look like so long as you find them comfortable. We also enjoy a Sketchers Go Walk, Toms or an All BIrds sneaker for walking days. Just be sure if you buy new sneakers you have worn them in before you travel.

Tips on what to wear for Orlando Theme Parks in October

What to Wear to Disney World in October / What to Wear to Theme Parks in Orlando in October

The biggest tip I have for you if you are planning to visiting Orlando Theme Parks in October is to make sure you pack your comfiest shoes. When I travel the most I ever walk is on days when we are at theme parks whether that be Disney World, SeaWorld, Universal or even Legoland Florida.

And while I don’t recommend wearing flip flops in Orlando theme parks I would advise putting them in your theme park day bag for rides where you will be getting wet. In my opinion there is nothing worse than when you have to walk around with soaky sneakers.

For advice on which theme parks you should pack flip flops for please see our guide to each individual park.

And if you are traveling to the theme parks with toddlers or children who will be dressing up it is wise to bring these with you as the costumes in the park are much more expensive than their amazon or Target counterparts.

What to wear to pools, waterparks or to beaches in Orlando in October

If you are traveling to the beaches in Orlando in October you need to remember that even in October the sun can be strong. However the dress code at beaches or at poolsides in Orlando is relatively casual.

No matter whether you are visiting the water parks or the beach you will swimwear and a cover. For specific guidance on the water park attire check out the below guides:

Swimwear

Whether you are traveling to pools or beaches in Orlando it really doesn’t matter whether you decide to go for a one piece or two piece costume. Both are perfectly acceptable.

However if you decide on visiting a waterpark then you may be more comfortable in a tankini or a one piece as you don’t want to have any mishaps on any of the water slides.

For men, a pair of board short style trunks are perfect as they work for beaches, pools and waterparks alike.

Rash Vest

As I mentioned, the sun in October can be fierce. I personally burn easily and Florida is no exception. I advise packing a rash vest to take with you if you are going to spending a lot of time in the sun and by the water.

Sunhat

Again, for added sun protection, always have a hat with you wherever you are traveling in Orlando and spending a lot of time outside.

I like to wear a straw hat when at the beach but Orlando is a casual place so a baseball cap is equally acceptable.

Beach Cover

For those times you are wandering around on the beach or grabbing a bite or drink I recommend having a beach cover with you that is easy to pull on and off.

Water shoes

Now flips flops are great for walking around at the waterpark but for beaches in Florida I like to pack a pair of water shoes too.

What to wear in Orlando at Night

If you are wondering what to wear in Orlando at Night there is good news. Orlando has a relatively relaxed dress code at night.

Most people eating out in Orlando will have come straight from the theme parks or the beaches and therefore you see a lot of relaxed attire in restaurants in Disney.

Just be sure to bring a pashmina or blazer or added layer as the restaurants in Orlando have fierce air conditioning and it can get quite chilly.

What not to pack for Orlando in October

Orlando I always think of as a relaxed dress code place and as such there isn’t a long list of what not to wear in Orlando in October. However given the temperatures you will not be needing your big thick winter

Also given the casual nature of Orlando you are unlikely to need formal wear unless you have a specific event you need it for.

However it is worth noting that some of the theme parks have strict dress codes so be sure to check them out before you visit i.e. our What not to wear to Disney guide.

What to Bring to Orlando in October (non clothing)

Sunscreen and Waterproof Sunscreen

Sunscreen is an essential whatever time of year you are visiting Orlando even if you are visiting in October. Just be sure to take plenty with you and apply it regularly to make sure you don’t burn.

Also be sure to pack waterproof sunscreen if you are planning to spend time at the many Orlando beaches, Hotel pools or some of the Orlando waterparks.

If you or your children are prone to burning then you may want to add a rash vest

Make Up

Orlando is a relatively casual place so bring as much or little of make up as you want. Basically just do what you feel most comfortable in. However if you are bringing a foundation or moisturizer then we recommend one with added UV Protection.
